Premier League: Five managers under the most pressure this season]]>

Football management is renowned for being a precarious profession, particularly in the hurly burly of the English Premier League.

Seven top flight clubs sacked their manager during the 2024/25, while Ange Postecoglou was dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the campaign.

Postecoglou has not been on the sidelines too long, with Nottingham Forest turning to him after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo earlier this month.

With that in mind, read on as we look at five Premier League managers who are under the most pressure this season, starting with one who desperately needs to win a trophy.

Mikel Arteta Arsenal

Arsenal’s decision to appoint Mikel Arteta as their manager in December 2019 looked inspired after he guided them to success in the FA Cup final the following May.

However, Arteta has failed to add to the club’s silverware tally since then is undoubtedly under significant pressure to end the drought this season.

The Gunners have invested heavily in new players this summer, giving Arteta everything he needs to have the team challenging on all fronts.

Arsenal have made a solid start in the Premier League, winning three of their opening four games. They also kicked off their Champions League campaign with a victory.

Arteta needs to build on those foundations and guide Arsenal to at least one major trophy this term. If he fails, questions will be asked about his future with the club.

Ruben Amorim Manchester United

Ruben Amorim arrived at Manchester United last November with a big reputation after a successful spell with Sporting CP. Things have not gone well for him since then.

The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League last season. They were also defeated by Tottenham in the final of the Europa League in Bilbao.

The club kept faith with Amorim this summer, spending more than £200 million on new players. Despite this, the club is in turmoil just a few weeks into the new season.

Man United are 14th in the league after winning just one of their first four matches. League Two side Grimsby Town eliminated them from the League Cup.

Amorim’s refusal to deviate from his favoured 3-4-2-1 system looks increasingly questionable with each passing week. If things don’t improve soon, the club will be forced to act.

Eddie Howe Newcastle United

Having guided Newcastle United into the Champions League at the end of last season, Eddie Howe undoubtedly has plenty of credit in the bank.

However, the Magpies failed to progress out of the group in 2023/24, and Howe needs to demonstrate that he can cut it at this level.

Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian owners set some ambitious targets when they acquired the club including becoming competitive with the big guns in Europe.

Howe ended the club’s lengthy trophy drought by guiding them to success in the League Cup last term, but the owners will want to see a greater return on their investment.

Newcastle are yet to become a household name outside of the Premier League, and the global success and acclaim (and boost in online soccer streaming demand) that Manchester City (and Chelsea before them) have garnered has so far eluded them.

The acclaim will come with trophies and keeping hold of their biggest stars. Losing Isak has been a bitter blow, but if Newcastle finish this season without a trophy, the powerbrokers at the club may decide they need to appoint a ‘bigger namethan Howe.

Graham Potter West Ham United

Graham Potter built a reputation as a forward-thinking coach in Sweden and he subsequently impressed when returning to the United Kingdom with Swansea City.

He was then appointed by Brighton & Hove Albion, where he benefited massively from the work done by the club’s shrewd recruitment department.

Potter’s career went downhill after he joined Chelsea in 2022. He lasted less than a season at Stamford Bridge and was out of work until West Ham United came calling in January.

The Hammers showed no signs of improvement under Potter in the second half of last season and have been woeful at the start of the current campaign.

Unless results improve soon, Potter will be lucky to make it to the end of October at the London Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou Nottingham Forest

Postecoglou said he doesn’t have to ‘prove anything to anyonewhen he was appointed by Forest and he is justified in adopting that mindset.

The Australian’s CV is littered with silverware, including the recent Europa League success with Tottenham. That still wasn’t enough to keep him in the job.

Spurs lost 22 of their 38 games in the league last season, with injuries hindering their hopes of enjoying a more productive campaign.

Postecoglou was widely criticised for his commitment to playing attacking football, yet showed plenty of tactical acumen as Spurs won the Europa League.

Given that he is working under a high-maintenance owner at the City Ground, the affable Aussie needs to demonstrate that Tottenham were wrong to sack him.

New York City FC Win 5-Goal Thriller]]>

New York City FC recorded a dramatic 3-2 win against Columbus Crew on a thrilling night in the Bronx. After trading goals from Dániel Gazdag and Hannes Wolf in the first half, Abou Ali restored Columbus’s lead on the hour mark before Wolf struck again. Late substitutes Agustín Ojeda and Julián Fernández then combined for a stoppage-time winner, sealing Pascal Jansen’s side a dramatic victory to boost their playoff push.

New York City FC returned to action on Wednesday night, welcoming the Columbus Crew to the Bronx.

Pascal Jansen’s side, fresh off a 3-1 win against Chicago Fire, knew another victory would strengthen their playoff push against Wilfried Nancy’s side.

Jansen made just one change from the weekend, with Raúl Gustavo stepping out for Andrés Perea.

First Half

New York City started brightly. After only five minutes, Maxi Moralez clipped a corner kick to the edge of the box, where Aiden O’Neill met it first-time—his strike skimming just wide.

Columbus replied almost immediately, Wessam Abou Ali seeing an effort blocked by Thiago Martins before Dániel Gazdag drew a smart stop from Matt Freese.

The hosts kept pressing. Perea forced Patrick Schulte into a save just before the half-hour, and Alonso Martínez soon tested him again from close range. At the other end, Freese denied Gazdag’s towering header with a sharp reflex save.

Columbus broke the deadlock five minutes before the interval. O’Neill was penalized for a challenge on Abou Ali inside the box, and Gazdag made no mistake from the spot.

Yet City found an answer in first-half stoppage time. O’Neill lofted a pass into the area, Justin Haak squared it across goal, and Hannes Wolf bundled the ball over the line to restore parity.

Second Half

The second half began at a furious pace. In the 55th minute, Martínez went down under Schulte’s challenge, sparking fierce appeals for a penalty, but the referee did not agree.

Within minutes, the Crew made New York City pay. Abou Ali rose highest on the hour mark, his header glancing off the inside of the post before settling in the net.

Determined to respond, Martínez and O’Neill both tried their luck from distance, but Schulte held firm. Jansen then turned to his bench, withdrawing Martínez and Moralez for Agustín Ojeda and Julián Fernández.

The changes nearly paid off instantly. [First name] Wolf went close again, denied only by César Ruvalcaba’s block. Moments later, however, he would not be stopped. Meeting Ojeda’s curling cross at the back post, the Austrian lashed a left-footed volley beyond Schulte to level the contest once more.

The 82nd minute saw further changes for New York City as O’Neill and Fernández Mercau were replaced by Jonny Shore and Seymour Reid. The young forward went close to scoring minutes after coming on, but saw his header saved by Schulte.

Heading into stoppage time, New York City continued to push the issue and were rewarded late on. The goal was the product of a rapid counterattack instigated by Tayvon Gray. He played it to Ojeda, who drove forward before finding Fernández, who curled a delightful strike past Schulte at the death.

It proved to be the decisive strike and confirmed a dramatic 3-2 win for New York City on the night.

From Microgaming’s Football Star to NetEnt’s Champions Cup, explore matchday-inspired features..

The Best Football-Themed Online Slots]]>

The pace of a football game, build-up, scramble, a burst at the end, etc, seems to transfer to slot design pretty well, too. Developers seize that strain for football-themed slots, the colour of the feather, the noise of crowds, and reflect it with reels, paylines, and bonus rounds to ensure that with each turn of the coin, it appears like a corner kick, possibly both bent over the net.

Football-Themed Online Casino Slots: Best Games, Features & Matchday Thrills

Microgaming and NetEnt are not the first large studios to dig into the atmosphere of the sport to create a slot, and it is not an overexpressed skin, but a complete experience, with pitchside views, opening animation celebrations, and in-season noises.

Fans can enjoy the thrill of matchday while spinning the reels at SkyCrown, which offers exciting football-themed slots and a user-friendly experience.

The roar before the spin: why football and slots are a match made in stadium heaven

first touch logo for casinos article

Playbooks and powerups: how football-themed slots borrow from the beautiful game

Below the glossy cover, the football slots borrow gameplay concepts any fan can recognize: positional bonuses (think stacked or synced reels), set-piece bonuses (free spins triggered like a penalty), and, as a player, wilds which act like star strikers to package a direction of play.

NetEnts Football: champions cup simultaneously allows you to choose a team to be your favorite and an overlay of wilds and a tournament experience with football players makes you feel like participating in one by winning showcase tournaments to the grand finale Microgaming Football Star Football Star gives you a high-way format instead of 5 reels and teams feature which interacts with wilds to increase the excitement of the game during free spins, and graduates you to a grand final.

Legends, licenses, and the smell of fresh grass: branded vs generic

Others of the football slots empty their pockets on licensed likenesses of teams and star players; others are eating their history in a particularly whimsical, fantastic manner that doesn’t identify with any given club or competition. Top Trumps Football Stars was developed by Playtech, turned to branded player cards, then added a progressive jackpot feature so that there was a sense of spinning slot reel games, and the worth of player statistics collected.

Other studios, in the meantime, develop completely new legends and cinematic replays that enable the slot to breathe football without slurring on license fees. They both have their advantages: licences lead to recognition and fan service, and generic themes allow developers creative liberties to create enthusiasm which would not develop in a licensed model.

Crowd-pleasers to try

 • Football Star â€?Microgaming: 5 reels, 243 ways, flashy free spins, and star features.
 • Football: Champions Cup â€?NetEnt: team choice, overlay wilds, and a tournament bonus.
 • Top Trumps Football Stars â€?Playtech: character cards, free kicks, and a progressive jackpot.
 • Touchdown Gold / NFL-style slots â€?a reminder that gridiron gets the reel treatment too (studios like Kalamba and Nucleus have recent entries).
 • Legends of Football â€?newer studios offering modern RTPs and mini-game playbooks.

Bonus rounds that feel like extra time

A bonus round is what makes a good slot of football a great one. Think of a shootout mini game where every successful penalty is a multiplier of some sort, or another game where a ball passes through again, symbols are frozen like a striker before he can be confronted.

These scenes are structured to reproduce that burst of adrenaline that you experience during overtime save- get- small and repeatable incidents that can lead to an increased victory. Numerous football slots feature choices that require you to make, as well: decide which striker to use, which tactics to employ, or an option to do more spins with reduced multipliers. This level of interaction makes the player feel that he is a manager making key decisions.

Mobile, social, and seasonality: when spins meet tournaments

Football-themed slots shine during major tournaments. Casinos and operators run Euro- or World Cup-themed promotions, in-game minigames, and leaderboard events that mimic fantasy competitions turning slots into a side-quest for the tournament’s duration. Developers also optimize these titles for mobile so you can take that matchday mood to the commute or halftime break.

Some operators even mix social features, allowing players to chase leaderboard rewards or participate in limited-time challenges that coincide with real fixtures. The result is a feedback loop where real football feeds slot activity and slots feed promotions during peak football season.

Final whistle: why football-themed slots keep scoring

At their best, football-themed slots do more than paste a ball on a reel: they distill the sport’s emotional waveform hope, tension, jubilation into half-minute bursts of play. Whether you’re chasing a progressive jackpot, playing the role of manager in a choose-your-tactic bonus, or simply enjoying the stadium noise while you spin, these games offer a familiar thrill with the unpredictable payoff of a last-minute goal. For fans who want a small, intoxicating dose of matchday magic between fixtures, they’re a perfect match.

Every card has a specific rank, contributing an additional layer of complexity in determining which moves to make.

What sets Pusoy Dos apart is its heavy reliance on anticipation and forward-thinking. Players constantly assess present circumstances, predict counteractions, and formulate plans that balance risk and reward. The ability to judge when to play conservatively or aggressively is crucial. Unexpected developments during matches force players to reevaluate initial strategies and switch tactics accordingly, keeping the mental engagement high throughout.

Each turn demands an assessment of possible plays, anticipation of othersmoves, and selection of the option that maximizes chances of winning. This constant mental evaluation mimics the analytical processes needed in various life scenarios, from business decisions to personal planning.

Adaptability emerges as a key skill honed by the game. Success depends on how well a player can pivot when the situation changes, reflecting real-world scenarios where conditions seldom remain static. Veteran players master the art of timing, knowing precisely when to hold cards and when to unleash powerful moves, developing intuition rooted in experience and analysis.

Additionally, Pusoy Dos online sharpens memory and pattern recognition. Keeping track of cards already played and estimating the likelihood of remaining combinations requires mental focus and enhances cognitive endurance. This aspect contributes to improving attention span and the ability to process multiple variables simultaneously.

This article explains why it is essential for Digital Transformation Initiatives.

Headless CMS & Digital Transformation Initiatives]]>

Digital transformation is not just a buzzword; it’s how people work across industries. Simply digitizing operations is not enough; digital transformation is assessing what transformation means at legacy assets and how operations, customer engagement, and value generation can shift in this increasingly fast-paced environment. Whether in marketing and sales or logistics and customer service, any area needing transformation will be felt organizationally, fueled by new technologies needing content creation and delivery.

Why Headless CMS Is Essential for Digital Transformation Initiatives

first touch logo for casinos article

Why? Because content is king, everything from product knowledge on a retail e-commerce site to onboarding videos on a subscription-based app to a knowledge base accessed for after-sale support relies on content to operate. Should information become disparate, un-updatable, or un-transferable across channels and platforms, all of these new transformation efforts will fail.

Enter the Headless CMS. As a foundational architecture, it can support solutions through separation. As it decouples the content management system and delivery layer, a Headless CMS offers the flexibility, low total cost odf ownership, and integration capabilities to support any digital experience. Organizations are no longer limited to cookie-cutter delivery templates; transformation efforts can thrive with innovation as content can be delivered consistently and contextually, wherever it needs to be.

Enabling Omnichannel Content Engagements

One of the primary objectives of a digital transformation strategy is to create a cohesive, connected experience across all channels and devices. When a consumer browses a branded mobile application, accesses a checkout screen on a website, engages with a brand’s social media platform, and looks for assistance through a voice assistant, there should be an effort and communication alignment, meaning the content provided in one area should be easily transferrable across all these interactions.

A Headless CMS makes this possible with APIs and channel-agnostic capabilities because it provides content delivery without being strictly tethered to a channel. Content exists in one general location and can be utilized for any application mobile, web, digital screen, wearables without ever needing to be recreated in various locations. Storyblok events often showcase how global brands put this flexibility into action with real-world use cases. For example, if a retail brand operates globally and wants to update its product dimensions, it can do so in the Headless CMS, and immediately, the product update is reflected on its ecommerce website, dedicated shopping application, and partner store listings.

This omnichannel approach reduces content creation time, as creations are never needed for redundant use; instead, the brand can guarantee that no matter how a customer interacts with the brand, they receive the same precise and updated information which is a critical component of trust and loyalty for those pursuing digital transformation.

Encouraging Agile and Iterative Improvements

Digital transformation isn’t a natural project with a defined time to completion; instead, it’s an ongoing practice with experimentation and iterative enhancement as its foundation. Therefore, agility is a competing necessity. When aligning with traditional CMS solutions, agility is challenging; content is often integrated with how it displays on the front end. Therefore, every change to how something appears requires back-end development shifts that remove precious time from the dev team in charge.

Brands engaging in digital transformation can use a Headless CMS to encourage agile shifts because they can work on content and development at the same time. Since Headless CMS platforms separate what something looks like to where it’s located, the dev team can concentrate on using React or Angular for improvements and experiments, while the content team can work simultaneously to optimize for SEO and readability in real-time.

For instance, when a brand rolls out a new feature, it can change marketing landing pages, update app content and revamp Help Center FAQs without waiting for each team to complete incremental modifications to move forward across their platforms. This A/B testing and rapid response through quick implementation opportunities ensure faster time to success in the market.

Integration with the Larger Digital Ecosystem

Digital transformation fails when technology silos exist; companies need their technology ecosystems to talk. A company’s content management system must communicate effectively with its CRM, marketing automation systems, e-commerce libraries, analytics solutions, AI recommendation engines, and more.

A Headless CMS is built for such integration. With an API-first approach, it can send information and content to and receive the same from nearly any other system. For example, it can pull customer segmentation from the CRM for personalized messaging, push product information to an e-commerce library or send blog entries to the marketing automation system for nurturing.

This interconnectedness allows content to serve as more of a business asset than a housed-in-a-vault component of a marketing department. Additionally, as time goes on and new systems emerge (a better analytics tool or cutting-edge personalization capability), those systems can integrate without a total overhaul of the Headless CMS.

Capacity for Global Scalability of Content Efforts

As companies grow, so do their efforts in different regions, languages, and market segments; new systems to scale content efforts can otherwise overwhelm teams and create inconsistency.

A Headless CMS is a solution that scales but still enables proper management of content regardless of the amount. Teams operating globally can access a single source of truth so that universally approved messaging and assets are accessible no matter where they reside, and localization becomes easier as entire pages or assets aren’t always needing to be remade for example, in Headless CMS systems, sites can be localized at the string level or image level for easier translation and reduced error.

For example, a global banking organization could have one approved library of links to financial product descriptions, compliance disclosures, and educational blog articles and then quickly localize versions compliant with state laws and currency requirements using localization capabilities and still retain global brand consistency.

Encouraging Personalization and a Customer-Centric Model

Digital transformation moves brands away from mass content consumption and toward personalization. Customers expect brands to know who they are, what they need, and what information is relevant. The more accessible a brand can make interacting with itself, the better. But for thousands or millions of users, this means a fluid content ecosystem that changes based on data.

A Headless CMS connects to all the relevant personalization engines or AI solutions to create the customized experience. Content gets created and tagged with metadata so specific pieces can be sent to specific audiences based on persona, behavior, or stage in the customer journey. For example, a B2B customer who purchased from you before might see advanced software user guides when they log in to your site; a first time B2C customer will see general product overviews, welcome videos, and coupon codes.

Such an approach enhances customer satisfaction for having exactly what they need or finding something new at their fingertips, which also leads to conversion opportunities. No digital transformation effort is complete without it.

Reducing Technical Debt and Future-Proofing Your Architecture

Many businesses that engage in digital transformation still rely on legacy CMS platforms, meaning their sites and architecture were originally built years ago without consideration of how businesses operate today. This type of initiative creates what’s known as technical debt custom code, copies of code, or instinctive workarounds that complicate good intentions down the road.

A Headless CMS reduces technical debt because it provides consistent, purpose-built architecture that allows for API integration from day one. Thus, adding new solutions or swapping out old ones happens online without doing a full system overhaul.

Furthermore, companies must future-proof their efforts for functions and channels that do not even exist yet. Be it shoppable AR/VR experiences, channel-generated AI posts, or new ways to interact with content years down the line, a Headless CMS leaves your content positioned for adaptability of purpose and engagement without additional rebuilding down the road.

Allowing Non-Technical Teams to Contribute

Digital transformation isn’t just about technology; it’s about cultural transformation, allowing more people in your enterprise to contribute to digital endeavors. For example, in a legacy world where marketing teams need to talk to IT or devs for even the smallest content change, a campaign stalls, and agility is hampered. A Headless solution with a WYSIWYG editor allows non-devolopers to spawn, change and publish content without touching code, meaning marketing, sales and product teams can make changes quickly, capitalize on opportunities and keep fresh content flowing without developer resources. Developers, in turn, can dedicate time to building new features and enhancing the UX two major components of successful transformation as they’re not bogged down with daily deployments and mundane edits.

Tethering Content Development to Transformation Metrics

Technology successes measure the degree of success for digital transformation. Therefore, a Headless CMS can help tie transformation objectives and benefits directly to content creation and performance capabilities. For example, connecting analytics and business intelligence tooling within a Headless setup is fairly simple; thus, knowing whether your content generates leads, improves conversion, improves customer retention or even decreases time-to-market is more easy at all. When C-Suite has access to these metrics, they can easily connect the dots of what’s working and what isn’t, have better visibility into what’s achievable and can make more informed choices sooner rather than later to make sure transformation is successful, maintainable and always goal-focused.

Conclusion: The Content Engine of Digital Transformation

Thus, beyond transformation itself, within the definition of transformation, content is king. Content is not only a vital digital asset of an enterprise, but content is also how true engagement occurs, how personalization at scale happens and how everything is stitched together across disparate experiences and customer journeys. Whether they’re a first-time visitor to a company website or responding to a push notification on a company mobile application, transformation efforts will only be as effective as the content they rely upon, structure and render. If a company cannot process, optimize and distribute content through a custom-built system, never mind that extensive transformations will fall short of ultimate promise.

This is where a Headless CMS comes into play to formulate that digital base and subsequent maintenance for operational success. It provides omnichannel delivery to ensure consistent messaging no matter if accessed via web app or mobile transaction or even newer types of avenues like voice search and AR/VR. It becomes part of the greater ecosystem and can be tied into all systems of engagement, including CRMs, e-commerce sites, analytics, AI and automation. In addition, it grants a level of agility that empowers cross-functional teams to stay in the same space and adjust on the fly instead of days lost to time-consuming development and coding backlogs to make changes.

The Headless CMS is also future proof and guarantees that those enterprises looking to scale or branch into new markets will have the resources down the line without any added costs or service lags. As new products come to market or offerings change, a Headless CMS can change with them, too. There are also built-in capabilities for personalization that can re-scale certain experiences per vertical or by demographic such that despite great company growth, every audience still feels seen and heard.

For companies truly dedicated to attaining adequate transformation efforts, a Headless CMS isn’t just another software platform change; it becomes a transformative agent for all intradepartmental teams. No longer silo’d, departments can access and understand engagement opportunities and needs while driving successes that lead back to their own goals because they have the resources to scale. Thus, the business becomes a well-oiled machine and efficient and effective in rapid response transformation efforts while also sustainable to grow in the long term. In a world where everything is driven by content, only those who can successfully adapt will prevail. A Headless CMS acts as the content-driven infrastructure on which the transformation starts and remains feasible.

Billy Hughes sadly passed in 2020. He was emblematic of something special, not just for his team Sunderland but for the English game as a whole, something we should especially ponder as the third round of the FA Cup comes around again.

Hughes was a star in Sunderland’s road to Wembley in 1973, then played a pivotal role as the Second Division side defeated the seemingly invincible Leeds United in what remains one of the most memorable FA Cup finals of all time.

Billy Hughes, Sunderland Legend

Billy Hughes looked as though he roadied for Deep Purple, possibly dabbled in playing bass for Blodwyn Pig, the look that was required from the kind of mercurial, crowd pleasing ranks to which he belonged. But give him a ball and he could illuminate a freezing, grey afternoon at Roker Park and give the people something to enthral them, with barely a TV camera ever in sight.

As the big guns enter the FA Cup this weekend, and play their reserves to do it, thoughts of Hughes will loom large, not least because, like Peters, he too represents an era when English football had something very special, something it has largely disposed of in the race for money the FA Cup itself.

Doing away with replays, heading for midweek rather than weekend rounds, some of them are self inflicted wounds, but the progressive disinterest in the competition, not merely at the top, but from the ranks beneath, is profundly depressing.

Billy Hughes, FA Cup Hero

There will, for example, be ten Championship clubs only too delighted to get knocked out this weekend and they’ll be selecting sides accordingly so that they can concentrate on the possibility of promotion and of then being ritually humiliated on a href="//www.footballorgin.com/category/tv-show/bbc-match-of-the-day-motd/">Match of the Dayfor a season while soaking up the gravy. That’s where we are now, not playing for the glory that the fans want, but playing for the money that the directors want.

Contrast that with Hughesera. From Sunderland in 3 to West Ham in 1980, three Second Division sides Southampton were the other won the FA Cup and Fulham reached the final too. Since West Ham’s win, no Second Division / Championship team has won the trophy and there have been just four second tier finalists in 40 years, and one of those, QPR, was in 1982.

So, looking forward to the big Wembley occasion in May when Chelsea and Manchester City will arrive there without even trying, I think we can all be excused a little nostalgia for the days of Billy Hughes, don’t you

First Half

New York City FC traveled to the Windy City on Saturday night to take on the Chicago Fire.

Back in action after the international break, Head Coach Pascal Jansen handed a debut to defender Raúl Gustavo, following his move from Hungarian side Ferencváros. Gustavo was tested early when Hugo Cuypers forced Matt Freese into a save in the 10th minute.

Chicago’s bright start was rewarded four minutes later when Phillip Zinckernagel put the hosts ahead. Brian Gutiérrez intercepted a pass out from defense, drove into space, and slipped the ball right for Zinckernagel, who finished low past Freese.

New York City looked for an immediate response through Tayvon Gray, but his long-range effort drifted wide.

The visitors continued to push and nearly drew level in the 35th minute, only for Chris Brady to produce a fingertip stop that denied Alonso Martínez’s thunderous strike.

Their persistence paid off six minutes later. A flowing move involving Hannes Wolf and Kevin O’Toole ended with the latter driving a low cross to the back post, where Nicolás Fernández Mercau tapped in from close range.

The visitors almost completed an impressive comeback on the stroke of halftime when Martínez found space inside the box, but his header flew wide.

Second Half

Chicago came out sharp after the restart, with Zinckernagel forcing Freese into action within a minute. Martínez replied soon after with an effort of his own, though Brady gathered comfortably.

New York City seized control around the hour mark, and in the 57th minute Martínez struck. The Costa Rican reacted quickest to a loose ball at a corner, driving it low into the corner to make it 2-1.

The Fire almost equalized moments later when Jack Elliott’s header across the six-yard box just evaded Cuypers.

Jansen turned to his bench in the 71st minute, bringing on Jonny Shore for Aiden O’Neill. Soon after, Freese was alert again to smother a dangerous low cross from Jonathan Dean.

Agustín Ojeda entered for Nico Fernández in the 80th minute as Jansen looked to freshen his attack.

Chicago’s last big chance came in the 86th minute, when Andrew Gutman met a corner at the near post, but his header flashed off target allowing New York City to hold firm and see out the win.

Jansen made further changes heading into stoppage time as he intorduced Strahinja Tanasijević and Seymour Reid in place of Gustavo and Martínez.

Reid’s introduction proved inspired when he extended New York City’s lead to 3-1 with his first MLS goal in the 93rd minute. The strike came at the end of a brilliant counterattack sparked by Gray, with Ojeda squaring the ball for Reid to calmly slot past Brady to become the youngest goalscorer in Club history.

That was the last act of note on a night that New York City FC recorded an impressive 3-1 win on the road.

Just two weeks ago, Gotham FC (8-6-6, 30 points) sat right on the playoff line, battling with a handful of teams for a spot in the NWSL’s eight-team postseason picture. But three straight wins including two on the road, the other being against the reigning champion Orlando Pride have reconfigured Gotham’s outlook with six matches left in the regular season.

“This is a very important win for us away from home and another clean sheet, said Gotham FC coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “San Diego is a great team, and it’s always a difficult place to play. They control the ball well, and that can be tough for us because we are normally the team that dictates possession. We needed to be resilient and ready for that situation, and I think the team showed it was prepared./p>

The win avenged Gotham’s home loss to San Diego back in May, and it also gave a glimpse into what Amorós’s team can look like at its best, continuing a run of form since a June win at Utah that has Gotham among the hottest squads in the league. Gotham is 5-1-3, with 18 points from a possible 27, in its last nine NWSL matches, in addition to a perfect record through two Concacaf W Champions Cup group stage games.

Gonzalez Strikes Again

At Snapdragon Stadium, Gotham’s goals both fit the team’s playing style perfectly.

The first, from González in the 45th minute, came from Gotham’s pressing. A bad back pass put San Diego goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan under pressure from Gotham forward Geyse, forcing the ball to the Spanish striker, who passed it into the goal from 20 yards out. González now has 13 goals 11 in the first halves of games and is four away from tying the club record for a single season.

Shaw, who came on at halftime after joining the team Thursday for her first training session, redirected a driven cross from Jaelin Howell with a header in the 79th minute to seal the win. It was the perfect exclamation point on a whirlwind week for the 20-year-old who transferred in from the North Carolina Courage.

“Honestly, I’ve just been taking it as it comes,Shaw said. “It’s been a lot, but I’m not taking myself too seriously, and I’m enjoying the moments I get here with everyone while getting to know the team. Once you’re out there playing soccer, nothing else really matters. As soon as I got on the pitch, it all felt good./p>

Celtic Fans Plan Day Of Unrest On Sunday]]>

Several Celtic supporters groups plan to stage a protest on Sunday when the Hoops visit Kilmarnock, by intentionally arriving late to the match.

The news marks the latest escalation in the ongoing dispute between the Celtic board of directors and a large block of the club’s most ardent supporters over perceived failings during the summer transfer window.

On social media, there have been mentions of boycotting the Bhoyshome Europa League fixtures and the club’s merchandise.

These things either take off, or they don’t, but it’s clear the statement issued by the Celtic board on Saturday failed to quell anger.

The animosity will likely continue, particularly if the Hoops start to truly struggle on the pitch, something that could happen as soon as Sunday, given the “plastic pitchat Killie’s Rugby Park.

It’s worth noting that Stuart Kettlewell’s side have yet to win a match this term, accruing four draws to start the campaign. However, a fifth or, heaven for fend, a first win on Sunday and things at Parkhead could go pear-shaped—like they have in nearby Hamilton.

It’s always a bit of a stretch to compare the goings on at clubs like Celtic or Rangers with those of some of their domestic “competition, but it sure highlights the “different worldsinvolved.

Hamilton Drama

Hamilton Academical supporters have been in a conflict with the club’s board for months over its decision last spring to move home league matches from its own stadium to Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld (among other issues).

A protest at the new “home groundin August turned feisty—though NOT criminal—when Police Scotland were called in. This week, a Freedom of Information request from supporters groups confirmed the lack of criminal activity during the protest, which only raised the ire against the club’s board.

This conflict amounts to an existential crisis for a club like Hamilton, which finds itself in League One this term, after a number of years in the Premiership.

It’s hard to imagine the current state of affairs at Celtic rising to that levelIsn’t it?
